My first real job was working for a group of entrepreneurs who had a diverse number of ventures, including area development rights for Arby's Roast Beef. I didn't know it at the time, but it was the best foundation upon which to start my career path. The business partners themselves had no fear, and taught me to face the unknown with anticipation and confidence. Managing a restaurant equipment company, working to identify new locations, building and launching new stores, understanding financial statements and supervision of the marketing--their expectations were that their young team, upon whom they depended, would figure out how to get the job done. And not just "done" but roll up our sleeves, get our hands dirty and accomplish a successful result. We learned to view any failures as just a temporary bump in the road.
